1. The concrete aims of the project are:
- To compare and evaluate the impact of delivery of curriculum and assessment modes on school leavers in five European schools,
- To take into consideration the students’, parents’ and teachers’ expectations at the start of their final year,
- To facilitate final year students in sharing their expectations and benchmarking their experiences with their European counterparts,
- To examine the expectations of the wider community on the capacities of schools to meet the needs of the business world,
- To encourage students, who have completed their secondary education, to evaluate the effectiveness of their educational experience
- To track the students’ progress for two years after they have left school
- To compare the best practices in each school in order to determine future improvement actions and enhance the quality of educational management
The expected impact on the pupils is to promote critical competences by self-assessing their expectations and by comparing their educational experiences with their European peers. The management and teachers will have the opportunity to verify the effectiveness of the curriculum and assessment modes adopted in each school. The project will support teachers and management in recommending modifications in the curriculum and evaluation schemes by taking into account the needs of the wider community and the business world. Tracking the progress of the school leavers and benchmarking the best practices in the five European schools will determine future improvement actions within the schools’ Quality Management systems.
2. The project foresees Project Meetings to plan the activities, surveys and interviews in each school, evaluation of the results of the surveys, and common reports with recommendations.
Project Meetings for teachers will be held to:
- plan common surveys on the expectations and on the impact of delivery of the curriculum for final year students, parents, teachers, the business world and the wider community
- plan common surveys to track the students’ progress one year after they have left school and two years after they have left school
- compare the results of the above surveys
- evaluate the results of the surveys and write out common reports on the results, with comparisons of best practices and recommendation
During the Project Meetings the students will share their experiences, write out a common report on the strengths and areas of improvement in each system.
Each school locally will hand out the surveys and then pool the information and results within the school and among the other European schools through the use of ICT. Each year the results of the surveys, the comparisons of best practises and recommendations will be publicized . At the end of the three years, on the basis of the results obtained, future improvement actions on the quality of educational management will be enhanced.
3. The end products include the publication of a booklet at the end of each year with the results and evaluation of the surveys, the common reports and recommendations of teachers and students,.
4. The teachers involved in the project will evaluate the progress of the project and its impact by using on-going assessment grids and interviews. During the Project Meeting the teachers will establish common evaluation schemes and compare the assessment grids and the results of the interviews. At the end of each year, the whole project will be evaluated using the criteria in the European site: www.mice-t.net
5. The results, experience and end products will be disseminated by distributing the booklet (see point 3 above) to the participating institutions, the local and business community, the local press, and Regional Educational offices . The booklet will be published also on the European site: www.schooljournals.net
6. The five schools promote, enhance and implement educational policies which are fully inclusive, intercultural and respectful of diversity. For this reason, the teachers involved in the project will investigate to what extent specific measures are necessary to carry out successfully this policy within the project. On the basis of their investigation, the teachers will include, among the activities of each school, individualised plans to facilitate the participation of all school leavers in the project.
- Project Meetings and ICT communication will be necessary to define the role of all participating institutions and to ensure an effective cooperation and distribution of tasks. Project meetings will be arranged in every participating schoo
8. ICT will not only be used to communicate with the partner schools (email, video conferences, web pages) but will also be employed to prepare, present , assess and publish the surveys, the common reports and recommendations.
