In
1862 factory owner Anton Riemerschmid founded
the first vocational school for girls in Germany –
the “Riemerschmid-Wirtschaftsschule” ( RWS). It is a
municipal secondary school located directly in the centre of
Munich / Bavaria.
The
RWS is dedicated to providing the girls a good educational
background as well as a basic and special commercial training.
Therefore we are meeting the challenges and changes of time by
offering them a wide schedule of commercial subjects as data
processing, accounting, economics and commercial
correspondence.
A main focus is being laid on practical experiences, i.e. in
so-called “training-offices” similar to open-plan offices.
Special projects are designed to prepare the girls for
their apprenticeship after school. They are being trained on
writing application forms, on performing well in assessment
centers and job interviews. Next to the teachers other experts
and counselors are giving their advice.
With our school keeping close contact to local companies and
administration our students also have many opportunities for
work placements.
Globalization
and internationality is becoming more and more important
throughout the business world and we are therefore encouraging
our students to catch up with this by offering them different
foreign languages as well as the opportunity of taking part in
international school projects (i.e. Comenius or Leonardo)
Our
students´ age range is between 13 and 18 years, which is
rather young. Thus another supporting pillar in our basic
educational program has to concern personal and social skills.
They are encouraged in developing their personality in terms
of self-confidence, building up their potentials, adapting to
new circumstances and capacity for teamwork. These
qualifications are additionally trained in activities
organized by our school.
Students
graduate from the RWS with GCSEs which offer either the
opportunity to serve a traineeship directly or, for
top-students, gives them the possibility to continue with
higher education – following their way up to commercial
colleges or even to university.
