ITC “A. Volta” is a Secondary State School dedicated to enhancing a multicultural and tolerant approach to life and preparing students for further studies  or today’s professions.  Founded in 1984, the school offers three courses of studies specializing in Modern Languages, Computer Sciences and Business Management.

The school is innovative in its study programs, content and didactic methodology. The students are encouraged to participate in numerous, international cultural exchanges and work/school experiences every  year to enrich their academic and cultural growth.

It is a partner of the European School Association and takes part in the various exchange programs the association organizes.  Since 1985 it carries out exchanges with Oak Park and River Forest High School in Chicago, since 1997 with the Overlake School of Seattle and since 1998 with the Riverside High School of Vancouver.

The International work placements take place during the summer and all students can voluntary choose to go to London, Macon, Munich or Silves. The students that choose not to go abroad for their work experience have the opportunity to find placements in Florence.

Students who specialize in Modern Languages, besides the fundamental core subjects, study three foreign languages. All the students study English and can choose two other languages among French, German, Spanish, Russian. The exchanges with students of the partner schools  strengthen their linguistic competences and  broaden their cultural outlook. Many students have the chance to practice the foreign languages they study by taking part in various activities organized by the school for example, a highly educational experience is being guides in the Medici Chapels during the Heritage Week in Florence.

The Computer Science students acquire specific skills in computing, networking and systems studies. The curriculum comprises  CISCO qualifications electronics, IT as well as core subjects and higher mathematics. Many students continue their studies after their final state exam, even if businesses offer many of them work opportunities after they finish school.

The Business Management branch of the school offers a wide range of economical and practical subjects. The students collaborate in  projects set up by the Florence Chamber of Commerce.  Since 2006 the students partake, with success,  in periodic  3 week modules of work experience over  a two year period.
